Yes. It is true. For those who scoff and doubt (I'm sure you will be legion) that the most notorious lost film of all times was located, I will say it again with authority and conviction...
I, Sid Terror, saw Lon Chaney's lost classic LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT with my own eyes. Without a doubt. No I am not talking about a recreation made completely from still photos, I'm talking about the entire long-lost motion-picture!

Good Afternoon, Folks!
Welcome to another weekend of excellent things to spend your hard-earned savings on, although this weekend is a little more quiet than most are. Mind you tickets are on sale for some awesome shows in very different veins - VNV NATION, BILLY JOEL, STEVIE WONDER, COVENANT - get 'em while you can!
Remember, SEXPO returns to the city this weekend (which is kind of ironic coming in right after the Pope leaves)... and apparently you get to 'Ride The Gerbil' while you're there... O...K. I should be there on Sunday methinks. Not to mention two other large things happening this weekend. The return of BLACK CHERRY this Friday night at Hermann's Bar. Also, UNDER THE BLUE MOON is ramping up to be a seriously full Festival this year, in fact there is even a 'State Of Origin'-style SYDNEY VS BRISBANE band play-off this Saturday night (as part of the Festival lead-up) at The Lansdowne Hotel in Broadway.
...see? not an over-full weekend, but a nicely busy one.
OK, a very shortish spiel today. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)
To visually follow Events In Sydney I direct you to our Google Calendar and our Calendar function in our Events_In_Sydney Yahoogroup, so those of you who get the bi-weekly emails, can log in and have a look at that, as all events are displayed there as well (they're all the same events - just in differing formats).
This list is being mirrored on Google Groups, Facebook and MySpace as well. So, if you have a Google, Facebook or MySpace Account - keep an eye out for us there.
This coming weekend there's more than a bit of stuff coming up - so browse through and have a look. For those bands you might be interested in, have a look at Faster Louder and remember to continue to check out the AustralianGothic Scene Guide for that Independent What's On Listing (which we also supply details to).
( 'Coming-Up-In-A-Nut-Shell' )
Please note that some events are VERY much in advance and can be affected by closures, raids, organiser rebookings, weather, etc... Keep an eye on the site-links for up-to-the-minute details.
Prices are listed as Full/Concession.

Sinister Sequence
Sinister sequence is spawned from a collaboration of Sydney producers, S.E.T.H, SENSUM and HEDONIX. Formed in 2006, the project was conceived to bring a new dimension to each producers main focus and serves as a delivery system for each artist to bring to the dancefloor their own unique technique, with a synergy of minds and a crossover in style. For psychedelic mayhem and intelligent design S.E.T.H serves as the acts brainchild while Sensum gives the driving force with a dose of patented spiritual awakenings albeit TANTRUMZ. Of course, as in any three-way, Hedonix provides splashes of Humour to go with what remains music with serious attitude. SINISTER SEQUENCE is bass-line heavy, driving power dance music with a balance of psycho's and nitwits.
The powerful and driving combination of S.E.T.H and SENSUM meets the Comedic audacity of hedonix - as described by one avid fan
With upcoming releases on Electric power pole records and another 3 hr set booked for the now synonomous sydney psylabel, SINISTER SEQUENCE is live music for dancefloors!

Old Sydney Fogeygoths request:
Does anyone remember the name of the pub around the Central/Broadway area that Pornstar ran a club at yeeeeeeears ago that had an outdoors DJ booth and dancefloor? (unless I completely hallucinated it, which is entirely possible).
edit: my memory is the lamest of the lame. It was the Agincourt.

Things:
- Russia to ban Teh Emos?. At least now they've got something to cry about.
- Electric Ballroom is back! Hooray! This time, Timbo and Montag will be guest DJing, so there'll be lots of ultra-gawthik goodness. Poster and details here
- I love sleep. Sleepy sleepy sleep. Never leave me again, you glorious thing.
- At least there's some sanity left in the world. 86% of readers polled in the smh think that purity balls are a bad idea. I'm still frothing at the mouth at the idea of those repressive monstrosities being conducted here.
- I think it's time for another Delirium soon. Must get off behind and be organisey.
- If it's raining, dont wear the trousers that touch the ground. *squelch*

This was a request from Rachel. I won't have a photo until next time I cook it.
2 leeks
5 large potatoes
1/2 head of cauliflower
50g of butter/margarine
1 clove of garlic
2 cups of vegetable stock
Water
Sour Cream
Smoked Paprika to dust
Serves 4-6 bowls
2 leeks
5 large potatoes
1/2 head of cauliflower
50g of butter/margarine
1 clove of garlic
2 cups of vegetable stock
Water
Sour Cream
Smoked Paprika to dust
Serves 4-6 bowls
- Melt the butter in a large soup pan and leave on low heat. If serving to lactose intolerant guests be sure to use a dairy free margarine.
- Cut the leeks into small rings, about 1/2 cm in height. Add to the pan with the garlic crushed and fry until the leeks are soft.
- Peel and cube the potatoes into 1 cm cubes and add to the pot, stir fry with the leeks until the cubes are warm.
- Cut up the cauliflower into inch cube pieces, be sure to include the stem as well as the florets and add to the pot.
- Cover the vegetables in the stock and stop up with water so that the califlower floats above the potatoes, turn to Medium - High heat.
- Bring to the boil and then return to Medium heat, leave simmering until the potatoes and cauliflower are soft and lose structural integrity.
- Take the soup pot off the heat and use a "stick" blender to puree the vegetables. The soup should be as thick as custard, if you have added too much water return the soup to simmering heat and boil off some of the liquid.
- Serve the soup into bowls, add a dollop of sour cream to those who eat it and sprinkle heftily with smoked paprika. Best eaten with crusty white bread.

I just saw Julian Clary, beefed up and subtly crows-footed, wish Bert Newton a happy 70th birthday by implying they'd had gay sex twenty years ago.
I really should do more drugs. Maybe I could catch up with reality that way.

Also, the first 10-15 minutes of Assassin's Creed is quite pretty. I hope the game lets me do stuff soon.

World Youth Day.
Hitler Youth Rally.
Difference?
Well, apart from the former not requiring Aryan purity, not much that I can see.
Perhaps Pope Palpatine hasn't really left his own youthful affiliations behind ...

So it's winter and hearty food is the "soup de jour" and so I made up a Shepherd's Pie recipe last night. Enjoy!
Filling
500g Lean Lamb Mince
1 large carrot
1 large brown onion
1 cup peas
4 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons tomato puree
Fresh oregano/thyme/mint to taste
2 cups stock
Oil to fry
Pie top
5 large potatoes
1 knob of butter
1/4 cup Milk/Soy milk
Chives
1/2 cup of cheese
Cooking the filling
Cooking the mash
Preparing the Pie
500g Lean Lamb Mince
1 large carrot
1 large brown onion
1 cup peas
4 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons tomato puree
Fresh oregano/thyme/mint to taste
2 cups stock
Oil to fry
Pie top
5 large potatoes
1 knob of butter
1/4 cup Milk/Soy milk
Chives
1/2 cup of cheese
Cooking the filling
- Heat the oil in a large stock pan.
- Dice and fry the onions on a medium heat until clear.
- Add the mince and fry until brown and any remaining fat has pooled clear in the bottom of the pan. Pour off excess fat if required.
- Peel and dice the carrot into pieces no larger than 1 cm square, add to the meat mixture with the peas. Stir fry until the peas are bright and glossy.
- Put mixture on Low - Med heat, add the herbs and mix well through the meat mixture.
- Add the flour one spoon at a time and mix through the meat until it is well coated. The meat should not form a "dough" and if the mixture is becoming too thick to stir stop adding flour.
- Add the stock and the tomato puree, if desired replace half a cup of stock with red wine to taste. Cook until a thick gravy is formed, if desired add more water and simmer off to stew the meat.
Cooking the mash
- This can be done in parallel with the filling being cooked or just before the pie is put in the oven.
- Peel the potatoes and cut into 2cm cubes
- Boil in a saucepan covered with at least an inch of hot water
- Boil until a fork goes easily into the pototoes
- Drain the hot water and mash with a potato masher.
- Add the butter and mix through, then add the milk and mix again.
- Lastly add the chives and mix through.
Preparing the Pie
- Preheat the oven to 175 celsius.
- Place the filling in a 8 by 16 inch pan, this recipe should form about an inch deep filling. Pyrex or ceramic containers are best for pies without a pastry base.
- Spread the mashed potato across the top of the pie dish over the filling. To achieve crispy potato topping score the potato with a fork to form ridges.
- Place the pie in the oven. If you have prepared the mash and filling immediately 10 minutes should suffice to brown the pie top. If you have prepared your pie dish earlier (the day before is often best to let the water settle out of the meat) then cook for 35 minutes.
- Pull the pie out of the oven and sprinkle the pie top with the cheese, place back in the oven for 5 minutes to brown.
- Serve on its own with a big glass of red wine :o)

Due to the project going in on Saturday night Friday was exceptionally painful and didn't end until 9 or so when dinner with the boy and a glass of wine was well received. Getting ready turned into one of those painful "nothing's going right" affairs and I think I redid my hair 6 times... not helped by the sad sad news that the cybergoths were out of the Amazing Race (do you know how many questions I've fielded at work regarding goths wearing pink?)
Off to PHellfire for the World Youth Day special, latex nuns and naughty catholic girls everywhere! I'm not sure I've ever seen Oxford St so dead on a Friday night, the cold and the Catholics were keeping the queer and the kinky in doors. On the otherhand the signal to noise ratio was extremely high and heaps of my luvverlies were out and the "bored midle aged couple in chaps" quotient was very low. Consequently a good night was had by all, even if the sub
hexxyhex used for her performance kept following us around with his unwelcome Surprise Penis.
Somewhere around 3am
statichowl, Hexy and I disappeared home for "quiet drinks" which turned into an all day party and Wii Fest later joined by everyone's boyfriends and Daniel visiting from Brisbane. Accordingly the evening was mucho quiet with me fading in and out of sleep while we watched Weeds. No word from work so I went to bed at midnight and woke to a distressingly quiet phone which is a sign that everything went well.
Sunday we got all the stuff done that I was *meant* to do on Saturday; made kangaroo wraps and salad, cleaned the house up post partying, ordered bookshelves and saw The Dark Knight. We also tried the all you can eat Churrascaria in the Italian Forum and good god it's tasty, I have been literally dreaming about the Aioli garlic bread since we went there and I want to know what they put on their BBQ lamb so I can recreate the experience at home.
Since then I've mostly been in a series of shouty conversations at work. There's some minor kinks related to the project we just put in production and some fairly major kinks (as usual) with my CRM. Today I'm going to take an extra long lunch, get my nails done and avoid people who make my head throb because I think I'm being unnecessarily bitchy at work.
